This course is designed for:
Anyone required to enter or work in a space with a manageable entry/exit, no expectation of a specified risk and adequate ventilation such as horizontal entry into a large space, a short distance into a small space or vertical entry down a shaft but not to work away from the bottom of the ladder.
Course aims:
To train and assess individuals to safely enter, work in and exit spaces, which, due to their enclosed nature, their access/egress and their potential hazard/s have been classified as level 1 (low risk) confined spaces.
The course covers:
- Definitions, Risks and Hazards
- Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work and Permits to Work
- Procedures for Entry, Environmental Monitoring and Ventilation
- PPE and additional level 1 associated equipment
- The confined space supervisor
- Emergency procedures
- Practical equipment demonstrations and familiarisation
The course will enable you to:
- Identify specified risks and hazards to classify confined spaces
- Understand confined space risk assessments, safe systems (method statements) and permits
- Have an understanding of environmental monitoring, the use of gas detectors and ventilation
- Have an understanding of work restraint and fall arrest including the use of a harness and lanyard
- Follow procedures to safely enter, work in and exit level 1 confined spaces
- Use PPE and level 1 associated equipment correctly and safely
- Have an awareness or respiratory protection and escape breathing apparatus
- Have an awareness of the role of the confined space supervisor (top person)
- Understand procedures for and be able to deal with emergencies
